UA Part of $15M Federal Grant, National Center Designation

Traffic jam on a raised highwayThe University of Arizona is part of a multicampus program awarded a five-year U.S. Department of Transportation grant – expected to be worth up to $15.6 million – to help transform research, education and outreach related to the nation's pressing transportation issues.

The Portland State University Transportation Research and Education Center, or TREC, will administer the grant.

Professor Larry Head, director of UA's Transportation Research Institute, will lead a team designing a smart platform to serve as the foundation for a connected vehicle infrastructure and traffic signal system.
